Grad Samobor

Geographical position

Central latitude, in the south-eastern Europe, the north-western "corner" of Croatia - these are the spatial characteristics of Samobor. If the borders of three great natural areas - the Pannonian plains in the East, the Dinara mountain range in the South and the Alps in the West - are added, it becomes clear how the influences of relief, climatic, geological and botanical features of these areas collide here. The area of Samobor receives somewhat milder influences of these geographic features; the fact that only adds more distinctive characteristics.

The result are exceptionally beneficial life conditions. The climate is moderate with warmer summers, fresher winters and the optimal precipitation (around 800 mm annually). Rich, mainly deciduous, forests in the hills and high pastures are a natural environment with numerous animal and plant communities. There are also some endemic species, such as king's rose, Blagaj's daphne (Daphne blagayana), mezereon, February daphne (Daphne mezereum) and holly (Ilex aquifolium). An additional benefit is the altitude, from 130 to over 1,100 m.

The average temperatures are 1-2 degrees lower than the temperatures in Zagreb (20 km further to the north-east). Therefore, summers are less hot and more comfortable, and winters colder, which means longer snow periods. Thanks to the peculiarities of the relief, air currents (winds) and the greenery, this area has no smog. Or, in short - this is a healthy environment.

Samobor is located in the north-western part of Croatia, near the border with Slovenia (5 km) and close to the Croatian capital - Zagreb (20 km). The town is in the vicinity of all principal air, road and railway routes.

Samobor is half an hour away from the Zagreb airport and the main bus and railway station in Zagreb.
